Islamic Community: LGBT orientation is a spiritual and moral deviation to be treated

After criticism which, according to earlier announced by Serbian daily newspaper Večernje Novosti, a large part of the Bosniak community has sent message to Sandžak’s Mufti Muamer Zukorlić because of the electoral coalition between the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and the Bosniak Sandzak Democratic Union (BDZS), whose founder is Zukorlić, and his earlier statement to local television “Sandžak” that there will be no concessions to LDP because of their liberal policy towards the LGBT community, Islamic Community (IZ) in Serbia announces on this occasion today.

“Sandzak’s Mufti informs the public that the mufti of Sandzak has not issued any fatwa on LGBT category as some media say, leading a dirty election campaign.

It is however true that the Mufti said about coalition agreement between Bosniak Democratic Union (BDZ) of Sandzak and Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) does not contain nothing religiously and morally questionable.

The Islamic community preserves and promotes Islamic teaching about the family as a healthy environment for the existence and development of the individual and the whole human community. From the point of Islamic community, LGBT orientation is a spiritual and moral deviation which should be appropriate prevented and adequately treated.

This phenomenon can not be treated by promoting it or by violence.”

Bosniak Sandzak Democratic Union (BDZS) made ​​a coalition agreement with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) on joint appearance in the upcoming Serbian parliamentary elections. The list of candidates for the Assembly which was declared by the Republic Electoral Commission (RIK), in addition to representatives of the two political parties are, the more the representatives of the Social Democratic Union (SDU).

Gay Straight Alliance (GSA; Alliance) has started another campaign in this election cycle for the upcoming Serbian parliamentary elections – the new campaign is called “Your vote, your tomorrow“. The campaign’s goal is to make political parties and groups participating in the elections take a public stance on questions regarding human rights, including the rights of LGBT people, as well as to include these issues in their pre-election programmes and platforms, offering concrete solutions for reducing violence, discrimination and homophobia. Another aim of the campaign is to invite LGBT people, as well as their parents, relatives, friends and other citizens to vote for those political options which, among other things, advocate for improving the status of LGBT people, for equality and respect of human and minority rights.
Through various activities, GSA aims to offer LGBT people and all other citizens, a clear insight into the attitudes of all relevant political parties and coalitions, regarding LGBT human rights. GSA’s campaign “Your vote, your tomorrow“ will mostly take part on the Internet and through social networks, and all interested citizens will be able to follow the campaign on GSA’s website in the column Elections 2014 (www.en.gsa.org.rs/elections-2014), and on the social networks Facebook (www.facebook.com/GSAlijansa) and Twitter (www.twitter.com/GSAlijansa).
