Yesterday President Obama nominated Elaine Kaplan, an open lesbian, to serve on the U.S. Court of Federal Claims. The Court of Federal Claims hears all monetary claims against the U.S. government.
In 2010, HRC recommended Kaplan, a longtime advocate for workplace inclusion, for judgeship. With nearly 20 years of experience litigating cases at all level of the court system, Kaplan has secured a reputation has an outstanding attorney and appellate advocate. She currently serves as the general counsel for the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, which function as the human resources department for the entire federal government.
Obama additionally nominated Patricia Campbell-Smith for judgeship.
“These nominees have dedicated their careers to serving the public good,” said President Obama in a statement. “And in so doing, they have displayed an unyielding commitment to justice and integrity. I am confident that they will serve the American people well from the Court of Federal Claims, and I am honored to nominate them today.”
